Tacloban City — “ It’s better for the people to rate us rather than rating ourselves”, so said Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez during the Capacity Development (CapDev) meeting with all the city’s department heads held Thursday morning, August 12 held at the Mayor’s office.
This was the reaction of the city mayor after listening to the presentation made by the city local government operations office (City DILG) based on data they collected from every department in the city government.
“ It’s easy to praise ourselves during any presentation- but let it be the people to rate us on how they appreciate the services we are giving to them”, the Mayor said. So that the public may be able to express their feel for the services of the government , an evaluation form will be drafted and finally be printed for every department and give them to the people for them to fill in for their evaluation.
According Mayor Romualdez, it is important for every department to get the comment of each client thru the evaluation forms so that we will be able to incorporate their inputs to our plans and programs to serve them 5better, if not best, the next time they come. The best input we can get is from the public- feedback from the public is very important, he added.
Mayor Alfred: “ I will not be here forever as your mayor, but you (employees) will be here always until your retirement-so we must set up the proper systems so that whoever will be the next mayors of the City will not have anymore problems on the system".(FRED PADERNOS)
With almost all department heads present, Romualdez asked them to closely coordinate with each other in addressing any problem or issue-solve them at their own level and don’t wait for it to grow big.
To maximize the output of every department, Mayor Romualdez gave the department heads a marching order during the meeting, to make an inventory of their personnel, re-evaluate the work they are performing as against their item or appointment. Put them in their proper places of assignment so that they will have a good output.
Mayor Romualdez made mention as an example, that there is somebody whose item is a musician but actually working in the accounting office. We should start putting the right people for the right kind of work so we can best serve the public, he added.

The second termer Mayor asked the department heads to do that what they are supposed to do – fix all the problems and issues in their respective areas, “ never problem about the politics side, I’ll take care of that because I am the one who is in politics here”.

its about time we listen to this mayor, we know he is right and he won’t let his job left undone unless you people around has another agenda on your mind. stop fooling people and start working together with the mayor who loves Tacloban. famous quote: “sa ikauunlad ng bayan disiplina ang kailangan” its about time we do it together. lets work!

What the mayor said is true. We may need to praise ourselves, now and then, but to make it true, it must above all come. from the masses who are the end point of public service. Well said, Mayor. Let’s continue doing for the good of Tacloban.
