About 44 fire victims last November 2018 received financial assistance from the City Government of Tacloban through Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez at the Tacloban City Training Center on Wednesday, July 10.

On behalf of Mayor Romualdez, Councilor Leo Bahin who is the Chairperson of the committee on City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management led the cash assistance distribution.

According to Bahin, the assistance was not released on time due to the process of verifying the victims and the election ban imposed in the last midterm election.

“Nangangaro kami hin despensa na medyo naiha ine. Maaram naman kamo basta pagpapagawas hin kwarta hiton gobyerno, damo hinduro na proseso. Pero an City Mayor, Alfred Romualdez in naghimo hin paagi para matagan kamo na tanan,” he explained in the dialect.

The city government gave a total of P450,000 in cash assistance to the fire victims.

Fifteen Thousand Pesos were given to families whose houses were totally damaged houses, while those with partially damaged houses and sharers received 10,000 and 5,000 each

Based on the data of the CDRRMO, 23 families received 15,000 pesos, three families were entitled to 10, 000 financial assistance and 15 families were given 5,000 pesos each.

Meanwhile, some of the affected victims expressed gratitude to the City Government of Tacloban for all the efforts and help that were given to them.

“Nagpapasalamat ako na gin tagan ak hin sugad na higayon han City Government namakakatindug naak it akpanimalay. At least bisan naiha natuman gihap,” said Ruben Dumilon, one of the victims of the blaze in Brgy. 42.

The fire incidents happened last November 18, 2018, in Brgy. 42 and 39, and November 27 blaze at Brgy. 109-A. –CBM/TCIO
