TACLOBAN CITY (CIO) – To highlight the important contribution of the cooperative movement in empowering communities, the City Government of Tacloban through Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez has lined up activities for the Cooperative Month Celebration this October.

The month-long activities which will be spearheaded by the City Cooperatives Development and Livelihood Assistance Office (CCDLAO) will start with a Thanksgiving Mass and Program at the Baluarte Beach Resort on October 5. Highlights of the whole-day program are the Coop Got Talent and Coop Sports Fest which will be participated by local cooperatives.

Cooperative members will also participate in a Coastal Clean-up activity on Saturday, October 19 in Barangay 83 Paraiso to emphasize the importance of environmental preservation.

A Bloodletting activity is also scheduled at the Tacloban City Training Center (USAID Building) this October 21.

To cap the activities for the month, the Coop Pasidungog will be held at the Tacloban City Training Center on October 25 to honor Cooperatives and individuals who have excelled in their communities and contributed to shaping the cooperative movement.

The CCDLAO is a specialized office of the City Government that implements programs and extend technical assistance to local cooperatives.

As part of its mandate, the CCDLAO conducts the Basic Cooperative Course (BCC) for officers of local cooperatives. The BCC is a required training of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) for local cooperatives per CDA Memorandum Circular Number 2011-27; it requires coop officers to attend a series of training to develop the human resource capabilities of Cooperatives. It is likewise a part of the three-point agenda of the CDA on Human Resource Management.

CCDLAO also spearheaded several livelihood initiatives involving the vulnerable sector of the City.

This year’s theme for the Coop Month Celebration is “COOPERATIVISM: A Countervailing Force Against Climate Change and Violent Extremism through People Empowerment to Trailblaze Shift in Paradigm Towards Sustainability and Social Inclusion! ” – H.J. Roca/CIO
