TACLOBAN CITY (CIO) — Tacloban City Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) City Director Atty. Darwin Bibar led the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Robinsons North Activity Area on October 1, as part of the kick-off activity for the 2019 Local Government Month celebration.

To mark the month-long celebration, DILG together with the City Government of Tacloban has lined up series of activities that will strengthen the camaraderie of the local government unit, as well as the officials in nation-building and show their heart for public service.

In his speech, Mayor Romualdez reiterated that change is part of setting a standard to give the best service to the people.

“We will always have change; it is inevitable if we want to be better. I should remind everybody that we are appointed, and we are elected not to just maintain what we are handling or what we are assigned to do. We are put there to make a difference,” said the Chief Executive,

“Kaya ang hinihingi ko lang ay cooperation ng lahat. Hangga’t maaari it is critical that we all work together for a better Tacloban and for better leadership to come our way .We, the government, I’m focused on the better changes that we need in all departments,” he added.

Meantime, Atty. Bibar mentioned that apart from the launching, there will also be booths from the participating offices that will be showcasing their accomplishments and best practices on good governance such as Tacloban City Police Office, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, Liga ng mga Barangay, among others.

Dante Enage’s Aghat Art Exhibit that centered on the local government’s good governance was also highlighted during the launching. The said booths and art exhibit will be available today for public viewing until next week, October 10.

Poster making contest, ZumBarangay, SK (Sangguniang Kabataan), and SB (Sangugniang Barangay) Got Talent are also set for this October.

Aside from these activities, a Workshop on the formulation of the executive and legislative agenda for the City of Tacloban; and Training for the Lupong Taga-pamayapa and Barangay Tanods will likewise be conducted.

Presidential Proclamation No. 63 has declared October as the Local Government Month, the second week of October as the Local Government Week and the 10th day of October as Local Government Day in the Philippines, in commemoration of the passage of the Local Government Code of 1991. – C. Merin/CIO
