LOOK: A total of Php 19,620,000 in government funding was allocated for the Social Pension payout for 3,270 needy senior citizens at Tacloban City Convention Center. The three-day distribution which culminated on Thursday was facilitated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the CSWDO

Each of the beneficiaries received Php 6, 000 representing their social pension for the whole year.

The release started last Tuesday, (July 23) covering the areas 5 and 9, up to (July 24) from the areas of 3, 1, 2 and 10. On July 25, the release of the social pension covered areas 4, 8, 6 and 7.

Esther Dadulla, DSWD 8 Focal Person for Social Pension, confirmed that the payout stipend is good for one year and are intended for the first batch. Also, she stated that DSWD is still organizing for the second batch of release.

Meanwhile, Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs Head Rodrigo Cinco reminded the beneficiaries to use the social pension wisely.

The Social Pension Program for indigent senior citizens aims to improve their condition by giving them subsidies they can use for their daily and medical needs.

To avail of the pension program, the elderly must be at least 60 years old, a Filipino citizen, frail, sickly or with a disability, has no regular income or support from his family or relatives, and does not have any pension from any private or government institution./CBM/CIO
