LOOK: In line with the city’s effort to strictly implement the ‘No segregation, No collection’ policy in the barangays, the Solid Waste Management team on Thursday, February 20, conducted the series of information drive campaigns with elected officials of the Downtown barangays.

The team, composed of representatives from the City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City General Services Office (CGSO), Business Permits and Licenses Division (BPLD), and the City Mayor’s Office, discussed that this is part of the measures that the local government is implementing to help reduce the trash being disposed at the sanitary landfill.

During the discussion, CENRO required the barangays to let their constituents have at least two trash containers that are intended for wet (biodegradable, without dripping water) and dry (residual) wastes.

The said wastes, if properly segregated, will be collected daily by the City Government through CGSO starting from 7:30 pm until 3:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, households are likewise encouraged to unload their respective trash bins in the designated pickup points during the scheduled collection.

As agreed, CGSO is assigned to collect the waste from the barangays covered in Area 1, while the remaining barangays will be picked up by other Garbage Service Providers.

Meantime, the recyclable materials will be managed by the barangays, as it will be converted into other suitable things and can be a source of funding.

The ‘No Segregation, No Collection’ policy is also in compliance with the existing environmental law which is the Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and City Ordinance No. 2017-13-37.

The City Government requests the cooperation of the barangays as violators will be dealt with accordingly.
