Tacloban City Government designates “Firecrackers Zone”
TACLOBAN CITY (CIO) — With just two weeks before the Christmas and New Year Festivities, the City Government of Tacloban reminded the public to observe safety during the holidays by designating an area for the display and selling of firecrackers.
The City Government on Friday, December 13, issued Executive Order No. 19-12-182 signed by Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez which designated a “Firecracker and Pyrotechnic Zone” in Tacloban City.
Identified as the area where the display and selling of firecrackers will be allowed is the area fronting Gran Hotel in Corner Trece Martirez and Justice Romualdez Streets.
Only certified and approved firecrackers and fireworks will be sold in the area from December 17 until December 31, 2019.
The prohibited firecrackers include piccolo, watusi, giant whistle bomb, giant bawang, large Judas belt, super lolo, lolo thunder, Boga, goodbye Philippines, among others.
Vendors will be asked to secure a special permit to be able to sell the authorized firecracker, Business Permit and Licensing Division Officer-in-Charge Gemafiel R. Gaspay said.
Gaspay likewise clarified that the prohibition on the selling of firecrackers includes local malls and other retail establishments in the City.
A task force composed of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Tacloban City Police Office, and the BPLD, among others, will be designated by the local government to see to it that firecracker vendors follow the order.
Meantime, the local government is organizing a Christmas Bazaar at the Gran Hotel.
More than a hundred local merchants will be selling an assortment of Christmas Items/Decorations, pastries, and fruits during the traditional open market, which will be open twenty-four hours daily from December 21 to 31.- H.J. Roca/CIO
