Zumba competition promotes Healthy Lifestyle
Tacloban City (CIO) – To intensify the campaign on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, 9 barangays covered by the Diit District Health Center participated in the Zumba Competition held on November 15 at Diit Gymnasium.
The health promotion activity spearheaded by the City Government of Tacloban under Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez through the City Health Office (CHO) and in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH), encouraged people in the community to engage in dance fitness activities as part of a healthy and active lifestyle.
Among the participants who moved and grooved were from barangays 99, 94, 94-A, 93, 100, 103-A, 103, 37-A and 12.
Zumba dancers from Brgy. 103 Palanog were declared as grand winner during the competition and received a cash prize of Php 1,000 and trophy.
Meantime, barangays 93 Bagacay and 94 Tigbao won the second and third prize and received trophies and Php 800 and Php 500, respectively.
Highlighting the theme of the activity, “Galaw-galaw, baka pumanaw”, Officer-in-Charge of CHO Dr. Gloria Fabrigas, in her message, encouraged everyone to exercise for 30 minutes at least three times a week to prevent lifestyle diseases. Lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, hypertension and type 2 diabetes, among others can lead to an early death. — C. Merin/CIO
